Passport Operations in Response to COVID-19

We are accepting New Passport applications starting October 5th, by appointment only M-F from 9:00 am-2:00 pm.

**You can now apply for routine service and expect to receive a passport in 10-12 weeks. You also have the option of paying an additional $60 for expedited service to receive your passport in 4-6 weeks.**

Individuals will be required to answer a health screening questionnaire, wear a mask, and practice social distancing while inside our building.

*Please bring with you- Check or Money Order, Certified Birth Certificate or previous Passport, Identification(Drivers License), and Passport Application.

The Grand Traverse County Treasurer’s Office is a passport application acceptance facility.

Passport Information

You must apply in person using Form DS-11 if at least one of the following is true:

  • You are applying for your first U.S. passport
  • You are under age 16
  • Your previous U.S. passport was issued when you were under age 16
  • Your previous U.S. passport was lost, stolen, or damaged
  • Your previous U.S. passport was issued more than 15 years ago

If none of the above statements apply to you, you may be eligible to Renew using Form DS-82.

Online processing is not available at this time, however,  you are able to fill out the appropriate forms online and print to bring to our office.  We strongly recommend that you print your forms single sided and in black  & white. 

*Please review the documents needed to apply for a Passport before coming in for your appointment.  There are a few more documents and requirements needed if applicant is under 16, please visit travel.state.gov for more information.  If you have any questions about the documents needed please contact our office at 231-922-4735 or the US Department of State at 1-877-487-2778. 

Passport Payments

Two separate payments are required.  One payment is for the passport application fee and the other is for the processing fee. See the fee chart below. 

Passport Application fee must be in the form of a check or money order payable to the US Department of State. Starter checks, cash, or credit cards cannot be accepted at our facility for passport application fees. Note: If you are having more than one passport processed you are required to have a separate check for each passport application fee being processed.PASSPORT

Passport Processing fees are payable to the Grand Traverse County Treasurer. We accept check, cash, or credit card (fees apply) for processing fees. If you are having more than one passport processed we can combine all processing fees into one payment.

We offer passport photo services on site by appointment only, the fee is $10.00 per set

*Expedite fees listed are inclusive of overnight mailing/overnight delivery return services.  Please note that overnight delivery return service cannot be used for the mailing of passport cards.
